The Shinjuki area of Tokyo is one of the main business districts. I stayed there many times in the Century Hyatt, next to a very pleasant park. But walking the other way the scenery and atmosphere changes just the other side of Shinjuku station. There are many good, small eating places in the various alleyways as well as lots of night clubs. Most of it is reasonably tame, but towards the end of the street it is more risqué.
