Our journey from Albufeira to Lisbon was a pleasant 3 hours or so by train. At least it should have been about 3 hours, but someone jumped on the line just before our station giving us a 1-2 hour delay. But not to worry. The sun was out and we had a choice of 2 bars right next to the small, local station.
Browns Central Hotel is a delightful boutique hotel in the city centre. It’s easy to visit many of the sites on foot, but the hotel steered us towards a daily €6 ticket covering all public transport that let us venture further afield. There are plenty of restaurants and, by chance, we found a great rooftop bar and restaurant at the Terraço Editorial with excellent views across the city. The simple meals in Browns were great after sightseeing if we just wanted to eat without all the fuss of searching. But, again, the hotel steered us to some good places, such as a modern vegetarian restaurant.
The obvious places to visit are all very good and possibly one of the most enjoyable was a trip on tram 28 across the old city. But if you don’t want to endure the 1+ hour queue you could opt for tram 24 that seems to be a lot less busy. The cathedral offers a good view over the river and has a good exhibition on the upper level.
